When teaching cooking with “my guys”, I am not a professional cook; I am a human being, cooking. Just because we may dump too much cinnamon in an apple turnovers doesn’t mean we aren’t “good enough”; we just let it go and move forward. I don’t want them to be tense with feelings of pressure to do it the “right” way or feel shame if they do it “wrong”.


At Teras, clients work with their on-site case manager and our vocational coach to develop a recovery fellowship and engage work. Clients of Teras may also be involved in outpatient treatment while they develop a foundation in their recovery work, and apply to work positions. After 30 days, clients are expected to be employed while they continue progress in their recovery work. They continue to meet with their case manager weekly and participate in community support activities. Program Director

Tharros Experience

Our team works one on one with each client to help identify ways to add value to their long term recovery, including a focus on relapse prevention, values, and recovery fellowship engagement. In addition to vetting treatment professionals, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), recovery meetings, and other outpatient resources, we expose clients to various life engagement activities. Our structure, which is outlined below, is designed in a way that allows you to participate in community activities and learn important skills; we offer lots of opportunities, and you get to choose what works for your schedule and your goals. We make suggestions and provide support and accountability, but you decide what works for you. Hope House Boston Review approaches recovery by looking at both abstinence and your life satisfaction/ happiness. We employ the tenants of positive psychology to help identify what areas of your life will benefit the most from your attention, ultimately helping you achieve your goals and a life that you look forward to living!

There are no referral fees and our vetted licensed professionals accept a variety of insurances. We have the sole goal of connecting you with the providers who will help you the most -­ Period. Hope House Boston Review, located steps away from the center of Lexington, spans 4 levels with almost 8000 square feet of living space. All client guest rooms at Tharros are equipped with queen sized Serta Presidential Euro-top premium mattresses and high thread count linens. A sober living home creates fellowship and community that can help you get back to a life where you are happy and fulfilled. The proper support, combined with a safe environment and first hand know-how will guide you to experience a new way of being and behaving.

Christian Santilli is the Co-Program Director at Hope House Boston Review. He started his recovery journey atan inpatient, recovery program, outside of his hometown of Philadelphia.

On Saturdays, clients can participate in engagement activities, like trampoline dodgeball, go-kart racing, and escape room challenges. We provide opportunities for meaningful development of community and positive social connection through these experiences and more. Not all sober living homes are the same and in fact beyond the differences in “amenities”, there are many other important factors to consider. The road to recovery from alcoholism and addiction requires significant emotional, behavioral, and intellectual changes. Whether you’ve just completed a drug detox, alcohol rehab, or any other kind of substance abuse treatment, we know recovery takes time and we know that you’re worth it.

In the Tharros kitchen with “my guys” I get to witness what is possible. I am honored to be able to observe their personal development. I see stiff bodies, hunched shoulders, reluctance, doubt and vacant stares, at first.

He spent13 months in the Tharros community, giving him a unique ability to relate to theclients he works with. He worked as an actor and teacher in theBoston area before finding a passion for working with other recovering addicts andalcoholics. Inside of his work at Hope House Boston Review, he has found the empathicconnection and capacity for change he was always looking for in acting.

Our experience has been that once our clients arrive at Hope House Boston Review, they understand and feel the benefits. You are not locked in to any long term agreements, but we do ask that you come planning to stay for at least 60 days. After your initial period at Tharros, you may wish to explore our less structured home, Teras. You are not locked in to any long term agreements, but we do ask that you come planning to stay for at least 30 days. Some treatment facilities provide care for 30, 60 or 90+ days. If you’ve completed a program like this, you’re probably feeling very good about your recovery, as you should.

Teras is located two miles away from Tharros (both Tharros and Teras are in Lexington MA). This less structured residence is designed to support clients when they have 25+ hours of work or other outside structure weekly, which can be developed with assistance from our team, in the first 30 days. Tharros is a place for you to grow and develop a life you want to live without substances. Some of our clients choose to engage our less supportive or independent living homes also, and we can help you identify if that’s right for you when the time comes.

Longtime consultant and salesperson for in-coming conferences to Boston, Donna has developed teams at Historic Museums and Venues, John F. Kennedy Library, Brandeis University, and many venerable and start-up businesses. Clinical resources are discussed on an individual basis and every referral is done in the best interest of the individual client. On my first night of teaching cooking, in the Tharros kitchen, a home for recovering addicts, one of the guys blurted out “Are you gonna be comfortable working with 8 addicts? ”…My quick retort was “Yes, I am very much at home in a kitchen…

We have many local connections, including McLean Hospital, and we  help clients who don’t have clinical supports in place connect with appropriate resources. Darren originally joined the Hope House Boston Review team in 2015 after spending 2 years working in the Los Angeles recovery community. In his leadership role at Teras House, Darren interfaces with clients, families, and our support staff. Darren’s primary focus is to promote client development of recovery skills that will serve their long-term sobriety.

Every guest room is well appointed, comfortable, and quiet. Hope House Boston Review is a private peer program which is not affiliated with any state or federal offerings. Testimonials are available on our site, and we are happy to connect you with families and past clients who can share their experience with you. We take privacy seriously, and client information is not shared with any outside sources, except those affiliated with treatment, or which the client otherwise requests. Monthly fees at Tharros include food for all meals and snacks, transportation by our team in commercially insured SUVs, all activities, Tharros groups, and peer mentoring support.

Our community offers extensive structure, much of which is optional. Peer to peer support is an essential component of recovery and The Hope House Boston Review Boston Review only accepts residents who have made a commitment to giving recovery a chance; we work together as a community to overcome the challenges in early recovery. At Hope House Boston Review, we take a custom approach to each client, starting with a full understanding of each client’s needs and goals. Our team connects with each client’s clinical providers to help understand what supports are needed before he arrives at Tharros. Teras, also located in Lexington MA, offers a less structured, but still supportive model of high standards sober living. A study of 300 individuals whom resided in Sober Living Homes (SLH) was published in 2010 by a division of the NIH (National Institute of Health) (Douglas L. Polcin, 2010).
